Nicola Massingham
Humber Disability Sports Development Officer
Sport has always been a part of my life, from participating in every sport going at school, studying sport at University to working to develop sports opportunities across local communities.
I enjoy participating in sport to compete and to keep fit - however it is working across the Humber to develop opportunities within disability sport that I get most satisfaction from.
Over the last year of working in my current role I have been involved in helping set up new clubs for individuals with disabilities, organising training to ensure the workforce of coaches and volunteers involved in disability sport have the appropriate knowledge and understanding, working with schools to ensure all young people with a disability are offered PE opportunities and I have also organised an event for young people across the Humber to have the opportunity to put them on that first path of Paralympic success.
It is a unique job in that there is the opportunity to support individuals to get into sport as well as provide them with opportunities to develop and progress and achieve success.
The Sports Awards support the work that myself and many others undertake in the Hull and East Riding area and will help recognise the achievements of individuals and teams that take a lot time, hard work and dedication to achieve.
